Close the box by folding up the front and back flaps. The front edges of these flaps should reach the metal bar but not overlap it. Fold the side flaps over and tape the box using packing tape. Tape the seams and around the top section at a point several inches below the box top. Label the box to indicate the contents and proper room in the new home. Follow this process to pack the remaining clothes.

Wardrobe boxes should be loaded into the moving van in the upright position. Be careful not to put heavy cartons on top of them because this could cause the box top to collapse. Once the boxes are unloaded at the new home, they can be unpacked when convenient and folded flat for storage until they are needed in the future.

The limousine, for many of us, has been around forever. We associate it with the wealthy, famous or those who just want to travel in class. But how many of us have asked when it was the first limousine was used or how the term limousine even came to be? Well, here is the story.

Many hundreds of years ago, shepherds in Limousin, France, developed a hooded over garment to protect themselves from the rain and cold which they called a ‘limousine’. True story – and although the stretch from the concept of a hooded garment to a carriage seems long, this is exactly what happened. By the1900s when carriages were first emerging, the idea to provide and develop a covered traveling compartment were hand-in -hand. Throw in a Parisian coach builder and suddenly you have the French term applied to the covered carriage driven by a chauffeur.

Now mind you, the chauffeured vehicle was long in existence before the 1900s. Chauffeured horse drawn carriages designed for the wealthy dates back to the 1700s. But that is another story.

Now step forward in time when the automobile was coming to the forefront of society. In 1902 there was a vehicle designed whereupon the driver sat outside of the covered compartment and thus was called by some a limousine due to its separation of spaces for travelers vs. driver.

The first actual stretch limousine wasn’t created until 1928 and is credited to being built in Arkansas. These vehicles were often referred to as “big band buses” because they were mainly used to transport famous big band leaders, their orchestras, as well as their instruments to various parts if the United States.

This concept grew. By the 1930s, limousines were used to transport guests from hotels to airports and hotels, on sightseeing tours and more. The limousine soon became a common site around New York. With its popularity came a variety of new styles. Limousines started getting bigger and more extravagant and the limousine was stretched like never before. These stretch limousines were initially made by Lincoln and called Lincoln Town Cars. Limousines of this time came with extras like TVs, drinks bars, sound systems, mirrored ceilings, all of which were updated as soon as technology was on the move again. Of course it was only a matter of time before hot tubs were also added and this meant that the limousines were extended by 17 feet and had several axle additions.

The late 1990s saw the arrival of the sports utility vehicle, or SUVs and with that followed the SUV stretch limo. The most popular stretched SUV limousines were created from the Lincoln Navigators and the Cadillac excursions. The stretch Hummer didn’t come to being until the 2000s. The current H2 and H3 Hummer limousines are now fully equipped for a night out with a fully stocked bar, full lounge seating and even a usable dance floor. The Hummer limousines even come with bulletproof glass, making them popular with the stars, some even being custom built to include an on-board casino.

Of course the SUV didn’t push the traditional limo makers like Lincoln, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz and Rolls Royce out of the picture. These limousines are still being built for smaller parties as well as the newly wed.

But the idea of long limos and opulence were still tied together. The longest limousine in history is credited to Jay Ohrberg of Burbank California. His limo is 100 foot long. Jay designed his monster limo and hired it out through his car hire company. The limo has 26 wheels and can be driven rigidly or adjusted to bend in the middle around corners. Of course the car is currently in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest car in the world and even has two driver’s compartments – one at each end – to help with reversing.

Length is not the only thing a limo is judged by. Luxury is also important. Today’s limos can come equipped with large Jacuzzi tubs, a sun deck, a helipad, a swimming pool (with a diving board of course), a king sized bed and a satellite dish, just to name a few.

Limousine popularity has not only grown in the United States. In many countries where one isn’t allowed to drink and drive, the idea of a chauffeured ride is growing in popularity.

Yes the limousine is here to stay, which direction it will take as the future unfolds, it is hard to tell, but if you haven’t had the opportunity to experience travel in one, it is well worth the ride.

Roman costume was influenced by the styles of previous civilizations, such as the Etruscans and the Greeks, and also reflected the dress of conquered peoples, although in a lesser degree. It comprised two main categories: indutus, items that were put on, and amictus, clothing wrapped or draped around the body.

The wide range of climates that existed within the vast Roman Empire led to the creation of the seasonal dressing concept. Dress was adapted to the specific seasons and weather conditions.

Women’s clothing
Womens clothes were made of light materials and in a variety of colors, which set them apart from mens clothes. Also, unlike mens dress, womens clothes changed little. The primary garment was the stola, a long tunic with full sleeves. It was made from wool, cotton or linen, with the more expensive designs made from silk. The stola was worn with a girdle known as cingulum and a wide belt, known as a succinda. With the help of these, women achieved to create a double-bloused effect. Under the stola women wore a bust bodice – the strophium, and a sleeveless shift dress – the subucula.

Roman matrons wore wide tunics, pleated into tiny folds, which were held together at the shoulder by a series of buttons along the sleeve.

The palla was a warm piece of cloth with a hood, fastened with a clasp. Another outer garment was the sapparum, worn by women of the upper class, which had short sleeves, and the olicula, which basically was a short cape.

Men’s clothing
In the early days of the Republic, Roman men wore a simple linen loincloth known as the subligaculom or licinium. By the time of the empire, only athletes and workmen were permitted to wear loincloths. Romans, unlike the Greeks, were not tolerant of nudity. They did, however, inherit from them their two main garments: the tunic and the cloak. The basic short-sleeved tunic consisted of two pieces of wool cloth joined at the shoulders and down the sides, with slits for the head and arms. It was gathered at the waist with a belt, but could also be worn with a girdle.

There were different tunic styles for different occasions and social ranks. Magistrates wore the Tunica angusti clavi, which had two narrow purple stripes on each shoulder. The Tunica laticlavia, worn by senators, featured wider purple stripes. Made from purple silk and embroidered with gold thread, the Tunica palmata was worn by victorious generals. It consisted of two pieces and was worn together with the Toga picta. There were also other tunics, such as the Tunica recta, the Subucula and Tunica exteriodum, and the Caracaila.

The most important mantle was the toga, which was descended from the Greek himation and the Etruscan tebenna. The draped, elliptically shaped woolen piece of fabric was reserved for Roman citizens; slaves, foreigners, and lower classes were forbidden from wearing it. The toga’s decoration, color and shape denoted the wearer’s social rank. As did the manner in which the toga was draped.

The different forms of togas included the Toga picta, which signified victory and was worn by Roman generals on specific occasions. This toga was property of the state and only loaned to generals for ceremonial wear. Another toga was the Toga candida, which was worn by candidates for public office. Mourners wore the Toga pulla, which was either black, dark brown or gray, and had a head cover. The solid purple Toga trabea was worn by spiritual men. The same toga with purple and crimson stripes was reserved for the augurs or omens interpreters, while the purple and white one revealed the rulers of the Republic.

With the expansion of the Empire, Rome came to include in its territories much of northern Europe, which translated into harsher climatic conditions. Warm outer garments became a necessity. The Roman wardrobe included the sagum – a blanket-like wrap, taken from the Gauls; the lacerna, a rectangular piece of wool, draped over the shoulders, which had to be fastened with a clasp; the pallum or womens palla was a short rectangular cloak, influenced by the Greek himation; the paludanentum, was an enlarged version of the Greek chlamys, worn by Roman generals.
